Valgeir Sigurðsson

(1971 - )

'One of the most open-eared talents in that no man’s land between experimental and potentially market-gratifying music.' (Touching Extremes)

'The music [...] can sound chill and eerie: there’s singing, echoing, rasping, crackling. At times, the piano emits single, spaced-out notes that sound like water dripping resoundingly on ice in a momentary thaw.' (Arts Journal)

Valgeir Sigurðsson is a composer, producer, engineer, musician and founder of Greenhouse Studios and the Bedroom Community record label, based in Reykjavík, Iceland.  He has released three solo albums (Ekvílibríum, Dreamland and Architecture of Loss) and has collaborated with artists such as Björk, Bonnie 'Prince' Billy, CocoRosie, Feist, Damon Albarn, the Kronos Quartet, Nico Muhly, Ben Frost and many many others.  Valgeir has composed music for film, stage and dance and his work has been performed by the Iceland Symphony Orchestra, Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, Chiara String Quartet and others.
